Most accidents in the work place can be prevented by taking the proper precautions. An accident in the work place is usually caused by one of the three major factors carelessness, fatigue or improper lifting techniques. Employers can enforce rules that require employees to use the proper precautions and techniques to maintain an accident free work place.

Carelessness
Accidents in the work place caused by careless employees can be from using improper cleaning techniques. For example, spills like oil, water or hydraulic fluids on the floor can create a slick surface were an employee could slip and fall causing bodily injury. Any spills should be properly taken care of immediately and not left unattended. Accidents in the workplace can also be caused by tripping over empty boxes or other items that may not of been discarded or stored away properly.

Fatigue
Accidents can be caused in the work place from employees who are suffering from fatigue. Fatigue may be caused by employees working long hours or not getting the proper rest needed at home. When an employee is suffering from fatigue their body does not react like it normally should. An employee needs to be alert at all times when working to prevent accidents in the work place especially when working around machinery or in high risk areas.

Improper Lifting Techniques
A back injury is an accidental injury that is found quite often in the work place. Accidents caused from using improper lifting techniques by workers can be very costly to the employer. Improper lifting of boxes, crates or other supplies can create long or short term back injuries to an employee. Certain types of back injuries may sometimes require surgery which can also be costly.
