Electronic Cigarettes on Airlines

As many travelers smoke, they question whether or not they are permitted to use electronic cigarettes on airlines. The Federal Aviation Authority has not banned the use of electronic cigarettes on airplanes. However, whether or not they can be used is at the discretion of each airline, captain, and crew.
Currently there are only three airlines who have definitively stated that electronic cigarettes are not permitted on their flights. These airlines include Virgin Atlantic, TUI and Thomson, and Thomas Crook. They have decided to not permit the e cigarette on their flights because they look similar to the traditional cigarette and do not want another traveler to think ‘real’ cigarettes are being smoked on their flights.
So, as long as you are not flying on any of the above-mentioned airlines you may be okay to use your electronic cigarette during your flight. However, it is suggested that you ask permission. If they say it’s okay, then you are clear to use your electronic cigarette respectfully.
